SSI SCHAEFER implements a fully automated high bay warehouse
The pharmaceutical company Fresenius Kabi opens a state of the art central warehouse at the Cargo Center Graz (CCG)
In mid-2008 Fresenius Kabi decided to build a logistics center at the Cargo Center Graz (CCG). The ideal infrastructure as well as the immediate proximity to the manufacturing plant - located south of Graz, Austria - layed the foundations for this decision.
In SSI SCHAEFER Fresenius found an ideal and reliable partner, always making sure that the demanding project was realised as quickly as possible. Fresenius assigned SSI SCHAEFER with the conception, planning and realisation of a fully automated high bay warehouse including two stacker cranes and double-deep storage. This, on the other hand allows the storage of two or three pallets in the double-deep storage columns, depending on the respective pallet type.
The central warehouse
Due to the latest warehouse technology, three temperature zones ranging from minus 15 degrees C° to room temperature, an oxygen-reduced, fully automated high bay warehouse, a clean area for the sampling of resources as well as a state of the art monitoring system, the new central warehouse at the Cargo Center Graz exceeds the high expectations of the pharmaceutical industry as well as the official national and international requirments.
After the enormous growth over the past few years, a highly efficient and central logistics solution was developed for Fresenius. Today, 11,000 pallet storage locations offer sufficient space for the positive developments expected for the future.
The Fresenius Kabi logistics center will accomodate the company's warehouse management, the goods-in area and picking area. At the same time, it will serve as the base for the company-owned trucks, which supply hospitals and pharmacies throughout Austria. Moreover, the logistics center will be used as the central logistics interface to supply Eastern European markets as well as patients from all over the world - from Latin America to Southeast Asia - with products made in
The entire system comprises 2 SSI SCHAEFER stacker cranes, which are controlled by the logistics software WAMAS. The conveying system contains 36 drive units. The overall system is operated by the control system WAMAS including 490 digital inputs and 236 digital outputs. Simultaneously, the WAMAS material flow calculator controls the flow of goods on the conveying systems and ensures the transport to and from the 7,500 pallet storage locations within this unit.
Scope of delivery SSI SCHAEFER, Wels
SSI SCHAEFER Wels was in charge of the planning, shipment and installation of the high bay warehouse in SILO design, comprising two aisles for two fully automated stacker cranes with double-deep storage. This racking system with a lenght of 94m, a width of 15m and a height of 26m provides a storage capacity for 7,500 Euro and industrial pallets. At the same time, a conveying system platform as well as two other platforms for ventilation units in the upper warehouse level were integrated.
